Cessange, between town and nature
Located in the south-west of the capital Luxembourg, the Cessange district is ideally situated between city and nature. Formerly agricultural land, it borders the Merl, Hollerich and Gasperich districts.
Thanks to its geographical location, the Cessange district is in the immediate vicinity of the Croix de Cessange motorway interchange.
This makes it easy to reach the main roads to Belgium, France andGermany . What's more, the area has 2 bus routes to Luxembourg City via the Route d'Esch.
The Cessange district sees the runners of the Postlaf an der Stad in March. The streets are closed to traffic for the occasion.
Real estate projects in the Cessange district
Cessange is benefiting from the expansion of the neighboring Gasperich and Cloche d'Or districts. Long off the beaten track, it is now becoming very attractive. The Cessange district is an attractive place to invest in real estate. Previously underdeveloped, it is now home to a growing number of large-scale real estate projects.
The Cessange district is currently undergoing a major real estate development. In addition to the many buildings that have recently been completed or are currently under construction, new Plans d'Aménagement Particuliers have been signed.
The "Rue Verte" development project is currently under construction. It will eventually offer around 200 homes, 1,600m2 of office space and 800m2 of retail space.
The Guddebierg project will see the construction of over 400 new homes.
The latest project, Im Grundchen, will see the construction of new homes ready to welcome some 250 additional residents.
Amenities in the Cessange district of Luxembourg
The district has a basic school. The buildings are located in Rue Verte for Cycle 1 and Rue de Cessange for Cycles 2 to 4.
Three school residences are available in Rue Verte, Rue de Cessange and Rue Saint Joseph. Contact Luxembourg City Council to register your children.
A number of playgrounds welcome children from the neighborhood and provide them with playgrounds. The large Cessange park offers more space for outdoor outings and relaxing family afternoons.
Sports facilities are also available to local residents. A soccer pitch, a beach volleyball court, a sports hall and two gymnasiums provide excellent sports facilities. The Boy Konen stadium and Bike Park are also used for Luxembourg City sporting events.
The Cessange district also boasts a cultural center .
After the Cloche d'Or, the district will also benefit from theextension of tramway lines. A veritable "inner ring road" should be in place by 2040.
Residents want more shops and restaurants. They are also calling for the Parc de Cessange to be better showcased.
The Cessange district welcomes the Elsy Jacobs Festival and its Luxembourg and international female cyclists in May.
Living in Luxembourg's Cessange district
The Cessange district is a residential, family-friendly, young area in full development.
It's an attractive location for families, thanks to its proximity to major roads and the Cloche d'Or economic hub. Prices are still affordable compared with other Luxembourg districts.
Shopping and transport facilities are still underdeveloped, but this should change in the next few years.
The Cessange neighborhood offers a bucolic setting for families. The neighborhood is in the immediate vicinity of Findel airport's overhead lines, but suffers little from them due to the height of the aircraft at this level.
In short, Cessange is a fast-growing district of Luxembourg City, offering a good balance between urbanization and nature. Once a rather quiet, residential area, it is now undergoing rapid development with numerous real estate projects. It mainly attracts families and expatriates looking for a peaceful living environment, while remaining well connected to the main roads and the city center. Its ambience is quieter than in other, denser neighborhoods, and it benefits from interesting green spaces. However, as the area expands, the question of infrastructure and mobility becomes an important issue to monitor.
