Cents, a residential area with a Luxembourgish majority

Cents is one of Luxembourg-City's 24 districts. Cents is a predominantly residential district, with the lowest proportion of non-Luxembourg residents in the capital.
It is often compared with the nearby Hamm district.

Population of the Cents district in Luxembourg

Despite very strong demographic growth in the early 2000s, the de Cents district remains predominantly inhabited by people of Luxembourg origin. In fact, it is still the only district in Luxembourg City with a predominantly Luxembourgish population. 

Located to the east of Luxembourg's capital, it forms a whole with the Hamm and Pulvermühl districts. Residential, quiet and very green, these are rapidly expanding districts.

The Cents district is located on either side of the Rue de Trêves, the historic road between Luxembourg City and Trier in Germany. Cents also serves the historic districts of Grund and Clausen.

History of the Cents district in Luxembourg

Rural at the turn of the century, the neighborhood expanded in the 1960s with the development of low-cost housing in the Cité Frommes. The Church of the Holy Spirit was built in the late 70s and is the most recent church in the country.

A Carmelite convent is established in Cents. Two communities of nuns and a chaplain are based on site. One is more apostolic and the other more contemplative, welcoming visitors for prayers or religious ceremonies in the monastery.

A major project will see the construction of a magnificent work of art by 2025. The footbridge, accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, will link the Cents and Kirchberg districts. An elevator will also link Cents directly to the Weimershof and Neudorf districts.

Cents is ideally served by several bus lines at 40 bus stops. The CFL train to and from Luxembourg stops at Cents/Hamm station.

Schools and childcare in Cents

A basic elementary school is located in the Cents district. Cycle 1 is located in Rue Léon Kauffman and Rue Tornaco. Cycles 2 to 4 are located in Rue Léon Kauffman. A school foyer welcomes children for extra-curricular activities.

Outings and leisure activities in Luxembourg's Cents district

There are several children's playgrounds in Cents.

The Op der Heed playground is dedicated to the world of aviation. Children will find life-like airplanes, a landing strip, a control tower, a refueling pump,...

Sports fields are available for soccer and other sports. There's also a tennis club and a pétanque court.

A social center welcomes residents for various events and associations.

The FNEL scout chalet is located in Cents, right next to the Institut National des Sports.

Living in Luxembourg's Cents district

The Cents district is first and foremost a family neighborhood, offering a green, calm and airy atmosphere in the immediate vicinity of Luxembourg city center.

The neighborhood can be a source of noise nuisance due to air traffic and the passage of aircraft to and fromFindel airport, located in the immediate vicinity.

There are a number of shops where residents can do their shopping.

It's worth noting that very few rentals are available in the Cents district, and rents are high.

Cents is a peaceful residential area offering a pleasant living environment, green spaces and proximity to Luxembourg city center, making it a popular choice for families and people seeking a quiet environment.
