Sandweiler is one of the municipalities bordering the city of Luxembourg, located east of the Luxembourg capital. It is one of the smallest municipalities in Luxembourg.
It comprises the villages of Sandweiler and Findel, where Luxembourg Airport and the Luxembourg Detention Center are located.

Sandweiler, a rich history
The municipality of Sandweiler is a charming rural village with all the necessary amenities. The village of Sandweiler is located 5 km from the capital. It is close to the city of Luxembourg and the neighborhoods of Hamm and Cents, which were once part of the municipality, as well as the neighborhood of Pulvermuhl.
The Findel area is closer to Sennningerberg (in the municipality of Niederanven) and the Cents and Neudorf neighborhoods of Luxembourg City.
Sandweiler has a rich history. Its origins date back to Roman times. In the Middle Ages, Sandweiler was part of Munster Abbey.
The Catholic church in Sandweiler dates back to the 18th century.
Sandweiler is home to an American war cemetery that is easy to visit to learn more about contemporary history.

A gas station is available for refueling. You can also find groceries and other essentials there for emergencies on Sundays and holidays.
A small shopping area located at the entrance to the village features several stores: home furnishings and decor, clothing, toys, a butcher shop, and a supermarket.
A bi-monthly market is held in the village’s main square every other Thursday.

Sandweiler also offers a daycare center and a public school. “La Maison des jeunes” is open to all young people between the ages of 12 and 26.

Surrounded by greenery, it’s easy to go jogging or take family walks in the nearby forests.

The town is very well served by public transportation from Luxembourg.
Several bus lines heading east or to the airport stop in Sandweiler. Buses reach downtown Luxembourg in just 20 minutes.
The town has a train station for rail travel via the Sandweiler-Contern station, which connects to the capital in 10 minutes.
The village of Sandweiler is dominated by Luxembourg-Findel International Airport. It is one of the leading cargo airports in Europe.
In terms of road access, direct access to the A1 highway via the Irrgarten roundabout and the presence of the N2 make travel convenient.
In addition, it is possible to travel from Sandweiler to Luxembourg by bike thanks to three bike paths.
The SNCA (National Motor Vehicle Traffic Authority) and the SNCT (National Technical Inspection Authority) are located in Sandweiler. You will need to go there to handle administrative procedures related to your vehicle.

Today, more and more foreign residents are moving to Sandweiler because of its proximity to Luxembourg City. The village of Sandweiler has grown significantly in recent years, particularly in the residential area of Vir Herel and on the outskirts of the village, toward Moutfort.
Housing prices there are significantly lower compared to those in the capital.
A major real estate project is expected to break ground in the coming years, below the SNCT, with the construction of over 90 residential units, 2,000 m² of retail space, and 3,500 m² of office space. Permits are still pending.
