Neudorf / Weimershof, strategically located neighborhoods
Located northeast of Luxembourg City, the Neudorf/Weimershof district is one of the city's 24 districts. It occupies a strategic location close to the Cents and Clausen districts and the Kirchberg business district.
Neudorf-Weimershof is a contrasting district of Luxembourg City, created from the merger of two former districts. It combines the working-class past of Neudorf with the more residential and modern setting of Weimershof.
Located between Kirchberg and the city center, it enjoys a strategic location while remaining relatively quiet. Neudorf, the older of the two, retains an authentic feel with traditional houses, while Weimershof offers more modern residences that are popular with families and expatriates.
Well connected but marked by busy roads, the neighborhood attracts those seeking a compromise between urban proximity and a residential setting, with quick access to European institutions and surrounding green spaces.

Atmosphere in the Neudorf and Weimershof neighborhoods
The Neudorf area is a little-visited neighborhood in Luxembourg, except by its residents. Its very elongated shape, nestled in a steep-sided valley, offers few opportunities for a real neighborhood life. The Neudorf neighborhood is mainly a transit point to the city of Luxembourg. It stretches between the Clausen neighborhood and theFindel airport area.
The Neudorf neighborhood dates back to the late 18th century, when residents were expropriated to make way for the construction of the fortress. The neighborhood developed mainly in the second half of the 19th century with the construction of the Funck-Schamberger brewery, which remained in operation until 1982. Here you can find detached houses from 1880 and 1930-50, as well as more recent buildings.
Nowadays, the old houses are gradually being demolished to make way for modern buildings. The site of the former Henri Funck brewery has now been converted into shops and housing.
The Weimershof section is located higher up on the Kirchberg Plateau. It is a more residential neighborhood, with larger, newer houses. Real estate prices are also higher here than in the more working-class neighborhood of Neudorf.
Amenities in Neudorf/Weimershof
Economic activities and local shops
This group of two neighborhoods is distinguished by its proximity to the city center. It borders the lively Clausen neighborhood and the traditional Pfaffenthal neighborhood in the lower part of Neudorf, as well as the Kirchberg business district in the upper part of Weimershof.
The neighborhood has lost its economic appeal with the departureof major companies that were previously based in Neudorf. The Italian company Ferrero has moved to the immediate vicinity of Findel Airport. Deloitte has relocated to the newer Cloche d'Or neighborhood in Gasperich.
There are a few shops in the middle of the long Rue de Neudorf and a gas station. The Scandinavian shop welcomes lovers of Nordic products at the top of Rue de Neudorf, on the way to Findel.

Two Veloh! stations are available to residents of the neighborhood for more sustainable mobility.
A major project plans to build a suspension bridge over the valley between the Kirchberg plateau and the Cents neighborhood. This magnificent 200-meter-long bridge will start at Rue des Bleuets in Weimershof and allow pedestrians and cyclists to quickly reach the other side of the city. An elevator will connect the footbridge to the Neudorf neighborhood. This engineering feat is expected to be completed by 2025.
The Kirchberg Hospitals and the Bohler Clinic are easily accessible by car.
Schools and educational centers
In the Neudorf district , there is a Luxembourg primary school, as well as a municipal nursery and a private nursery.
The Sainte Sophie private school, which is both French and Luxembourgish, is located in the Weimershof district.
Leisure and recreational activities
The district offers several facilities for relaxation. There is a BMX track, playgrounds, a pétanque court, a cultural center, the Henri Funk stadium, and a multi-sports field.

Living in the Neudorf-Weimershof area
Neudorf-Weimershof has two quite different atmospheres between the upper and lower parts.
Neudorf is more working class, with many apartment buildings. It is a busy area that is not particularly suitable for family walks. The historic houses in Neudorf are gradually being renovated and converted to accommodate a new, younger population.
Weimershof is quieter and more upmarket, with detached houses. Both parts are residential neighborhoods, but unfortunately with few shops.
Pedestrian safety is regularly called into question by residents who want improvements to the roads on Rue de Neudorf. They also highlight the inadequacy of public transport.
