Cents is one of the 24 neighborhoods in Luxembourg City. Cents is primarily a residential neighborhood, with the lowest proportion of non-Luxembourgish residents in the capital.
It is often compared to the nearby Hamm neighborhood.

Despite very strong population growth in the early 2000s, the Cents neighborhood remains the only neighborhood in Luxembourg inhabited primarily by Luxembourgers, though the exact proportion of people with dual citizenship isunknown .

Located east of the Luxembourg capital, it forms a cluster with the neighborhoods of Hamm and Pulvermühl. Residential, quiet, and very green, these are rapidly expanding neighborhoods.

The Cents neighborhood is situated on both sides of Rue de Trêves, a historic road connecting the city of Luxembourg with the city of Trier in Germany. Cents also connects to the historic neighborhoods of Grund and Clausen.

History of the Cents neighborhood

Rural at the beginning of the century, the neighborhood developed in the 1960s with the construction of affordable housing in the Cité Frommes. The Church of the Holy Spirit was built in the late 1970s and is the country’s newest church.

A Carmelite convent is located in Cents. Two communities of nuns live there with a chaplain. One community is more apostolic and the other more contemplative; both welcome visitors for prayers or religious ceremonies in the monastery.

A footbridge accessible to pedestrians and cyclists connects the Cents neighborhood with the Kirchberg neighborhood. This suspension bridge also provides a direct link from Cents to the Weimershof and Neudorf neighborhoods via an elevator. This structure is quite notable.

Cents is well served by several bus lines with 40 bus stops. The CFL train to and from Luxembourg stops at the Cents/Hamm station.

Schools and Childcare in Cents

There is an elementary school in the Cents neighborhood. Cycle 1 is located on Rue Léon Kauffman and Rue Tornaco. Cycles 2 through 4 are located on Rue Léon Kauffman. An after-school center welcomes children for extracurricular activities.

You will also find a new daycare center on Rue de Trêves.

Outings and Leisure in the Cents Neighborhood in Luxembourg

There are several playgrounds for children in Cents.

The Op der Heed playground is themed around aviation. Children will find life-sized model airplanes, a runway, a control tower, a fuel pump, and more.

Sports fields are available for soccer and other sports. A tennis club is also available to residents of this neighborhood, as well as a pétanque court.

A community center hosts residents for various events and club activities.

The FNEL scout cabin is located in Cents, right next to the National Institute of Sports.

The Cents neighborhood is first and foremost a family-friendly area, offering a green, quiet, and open atmosphere just a stone’s throw from downtown Luxembourg.

The neighborhood may experience some noise disturbances due to air traffic and planes flying to and from Findel Airport, located right nearby.

Several shops allow residents to do their shopping.

It’s important to note that very few rental properties are available in the Cents neighborhood, and rents are high.

Cents is a peaceful residential neighborhood offering a pleasant living environment, green spaces, and proximity to downtown Luxembourg, making it a popular place to live for families and those seeking a quiet setting.

Residents would like to see more community spaces to foster social cohesion in the neighborhood.
