The Cessange Neighborhood in Luxembourg

Cessange, one of the 24 neighborhoods of Luxembourg City, is a rapidly developing area. Located south of the capital, it is characterized by its young, family-oriented population.

The neighborhood is now an ideal location for real estate investment thanks to its proximity to major highways and the new Cloche d’Or economic hub.

Cessange, between city and nature

Located southwest of the capital city of Luxembourg, the Cessange neighborhood is ideally situated between the city and nature. Formerly agricultural, it borders the neighborhoods of Merl, Hollerich, and Gasperich.

Due to its geographical location, the Cessange neighborhood is situated in the immediate vicinity of the Croix de Cessange highway interchange.

This makes it very easy to quickly reach the major highways leading to Belgium, France,and Germany. Additionally , the area has two bus lines to Luxembourg City via the Route d’Esch.

The Cessange neighborhood hosts the Postlaf an der Stad race in March. The streets are closed to traffic for the event.

Amenities in the Cessange neighborhood of Luxembourg

The neighborhood has an elementary school. The buildings are located on Rue Verte for Cycle 1 and on Rue de Cessange for Cycles 2 through 4.

Three after-school care centers are available on Rue Verte, Rue de Cessange, and Rue Saint Joseph. Contact the City of Luxembourg to enroll your children.

Several playgrounds provide recreational spaces for neighborhood children. The large Cessange Park offers additional areas for outdoor activities and relaxing family afternoons.

Sports facilities are also available to neighborhood residents. A soccer field, a beach volleyball court, a multi-purpose sports hall, and two gymnasiums provide excellent sports infrastructure. The Boy Konen Stadium and its Bike Park are also used for sporting events organized by the City of Luxembourg.

The Cessange neighborhood also has a cultural center.

Following the Cloche d’Or project, the neighborhood will also benefit from the extension of the tram lines. A true “inner ring road” is set to be completed by 2040.

Residents would like to see more shops and restaurants in the area. A supermarket project is planned for the lower part of the neighborhood.

The already beautifully landscaped Cessange Park is set to be further expanded in its upper, older section.

The Cessange neighborhood hosts the Elsy Jacobs Festival and its Luxembourgish and international female cyclists in May.

Real estate projects in the Cessange neighborhood

Cessange is benefiting from the expansion of the neighboring districts of Gasperich and Cloche d’Or. Long considered out of the way, it is now highly attractive. Until recently underdeveloped, it now features numerous residential complexes, and new projects are currently underway.

The Cessange neighborhood is currently undergoing rapid real estate development. In addition to the many buildings that have been recently completed or are currently under construction, new Special Development Plans have been signed.

The “Rue Verte” development project is currently under construction. It will eventually offer nearly 200 residential units, 1,600 m² of office space, and 800 m² of retail space.

The Guddebierg project, meanwhile, will involve the construction of more than 400 new homes.

The latest project, Im Grundchen, will involve the construction of new homes ready to accommodate some 250 additional residents.

What should you know before moving to Cessange?

The Cessange neighborhood offers a residential, family-friendly, and youthful living environment that is rapidly developing.

Due to its proximity to major roads and the Cloche d’Or economic hub, it’s an attractive place to live. Prices remain affordable today compared to other neighborhoods in Luxembourg.

Shopping and transportation options are still limited, but this is expected to change in the coming years.

The Cessange neighborhood offers a bucolic setting for families. However, due to its location along the flight paths of Findel Airport, the neighborhood may be affected by noise from planes arriving in or departing from Luxembourg.

Cessange is a rapidly growing neighborhood in Luxembourg City, offering a good balance between urbanization and nature. Once a rather quiet, residential area, it is now undergoing rapid development with numerous real estate projects. It primarily attracts families and expats seeking a peaceful living environment while remaining well-connected to major thoroughfares and the city center.

Its atmosphere is more tranquil than in other, denser neighborhoods, and it boasts attractive green spaces. However, as it expands, the issue of infrastructure and mobility is becoming an important concern to monitor.
