Hesperange, a municipality between city and countryside
The municipality of Hesperange in Luxembourg comprises five localities: Hesperange, Howald, Alzingen, Itzig, and Fentange.
Located southeast of Luxembourg City, it is one of the largest municipalities in Luxembourg. It offers many attractions for residents, situated in the immediate vicinity of the Luxembourg capital.

Hesperange, a highly attractive Luxembourgish municipality
Thanks to its close proximity to the City of Luxembourg and quick access to major highways, the town of Hespérange (Hesper in Luxembourgish) offers many advantages to its residents.
History of Hesperange in Luxembourg
The first records of Hesper date back to the 9th century as a possession of Echternach Abbey. It was the Lords of Rodemack who built a fortified castle in the 18th century. In fact, the castle ruins can still be seen today overlooking the town.
Hespérange was home to what was then the largest grain mill in Luxembourg. Unfortunately, it exploded in 1893. It was replaced by a new mill, built in Kleinbettingen. The town had a population of approximately 2,300 at the time.
It was especially after World War II that the town of Hesperange experienced significant growth. Its population thus rose from 3,500 to over 10,000 by 1992. Benefiting from its immediate proximity to the city of Luxembourg, Hesperange takes advantage of various highway routes providing quick access to the three neighboring countries. Several business parks are located within the municipality, notably in Howald.
The town is a major hub for economic development.
Business Parks in Hesperange
The municipality of Hesperange is situated between urban and agricultural areas. While it is characterized by the diversity of its landscapes, it also features several residential neighborhoods and numerous commercial business parks. There are also several restaurants around the municipal administration .
The town of Howald, directly connected to the city of Luxembourg via the Gasperich neighborhood, has a very urban environment. It is home to numerous business districts, including Rue des Scillas, which is undergoing significant transformation with the recent arrival of the tram.
The new “Op de Leemen” business park in Fentange and the expansion of the Alzingen industrial zone along the N3 will undoubtedly bring even greater commercial vitality to the municipality.
There is a Raiffeisen bank branch in Alzingen and an AXA insurance agent in Hespérange.
The village of Itzig is home to the bicycle shop of Andy Schléck, the famous Luxembourgish cyclist.
Residential neighborhoods of Hespérange
In contrast, the village of Itzig is characterized above all by a more rural and residential atmosphere. There are also several shops and restaurants there.
Located between the two, Hesperange has the best of both worlds, as does Alzingen in the same vein.
The Fentange plateau is now a predominantly residential area with large homes, right next to the Cloche d'Or neighborhood.
Numerous school facilities
The increase in the number of families with children has prompted the municipal administration to expand school facilities. Alzingen now offers a new school, while existing school facilities have been expanded.
The municipality of Hesperange offers schools with cafeterias and after-school care services (Itzig and Fentange), allowing children to stay at school longer.
The L'Enfant Roi daycare center in Howald will provide the best care for your children from a very young age.
Recreational activities in the municipality of Hesperange
Hesperange offers numerous sports facilities. Soccer and basketballfields , a sports hall, a beach volleyball court, a pétanque court, a cyclocross track, and a skate park are available to residents. The YOYO indoor amusement park is also located there.
Hesperange also has a music school with over 400 students enrolled in more than 30 different music programs. Both group and individual lessons are offered.

The municipality of Hespérange is also home to the famous breast cancer race, the Broschtkriibslaf, organized as part of Pink October.
Public Transportation in Hesperange
Regarding public transportation, several buses serve Hespérange. A study on a bypass around Hespérange is still under consideration to alleviate traffic congestion in the town, which is heavily congested during rush hour.
Howald Station provides train service to Luxembourg Station.
The T1 tram line runs from Findel Airport to Howald in one direction and toward Cloche d’Or and the Stade de Luxembourg neighborhood.
Sustainable mobility is encouraged through the Vel’oh system, as well as the Flexibus service, which takes you to the destination of your choice.
For tourists, there is also a campground in Alzingen. Convenient and not far from the city!
