Hesperange, a municipality between city and countryside
The municipality of Hespérange in Luxembourg comprises five localities: Hespérange, Howald, Alzingen, Itzig, and Fentange.
Located southeast of Luxembourg City, it is one of the largest municipalities in Luxembourg. It offers many attractions for residents, with its close proximity to the Luxembourg capital.

The municipality is experiencing rapid population growth. It is one of the most populous municipalities in Luxembourg.

Hesperange, a very attractive Luxembourg municipality
Due to its proximity to Luxembourg City and quick access to motorways, the town of Hesperange (Hesper in Luxembourgish) offers many advantages to its residents.
History of Hesperange in Luxembourg
The first traces of Hesperange date back to the 9th century as a possession of Echternach Abbey. The Lords of Rodemack built a fortified castle in the 18th century. The ruins of the castle can still be seen today overlooking the town.
Hespérange was home to the largest grain mill in Luxembourg at the time. Unfortunately, it exploded in 1893 and was replaced by a new mill built in Kleinbettingen. The town had a population of around 2,300 at the time.
It was mainly after the Second World War that the town of Hesperange experienced significant growth. Its population rose from 3,500 to over 10,000 in 1992. Benefiting from its proximity to Luxembourg City, Hesperange has easy access to the three neighboring countries via various motorways. Several business parks are located in the municipality, particularly in Howald.
The town is an important center of development in terms of economic activity.
Business parks in Hesperange
The municipality of Hespérange is located between an urban area and an agricultural area. While it is characterized by the diversity of its landscapes, it also has several residential neighborhoods and numerous commercial business parks. There are also several restaurants around the municipal administration.
The town of Howald, directly connected to Luxembourg City via the Gasperich district, has a very urban environment. It has numerous economic activity zones, including Rue des Scillas, which is undergoing rapid change with the recent arrival of the tramway.
The new "Op de Leemen" business park in Fentange and the expansion of the Alzingen industrial zone along the N3 will undoubtedly bring even greater commercial dynamism to the municipality.
There is a Raiffeisen bank branch in Alzingen and an AXA insurance agent in Hespérange.
The village of Itzig is home to the bicycle shop of Andy Schleck, the famous Luxembourg cyclist.
Residential areas of Hespérange
In contrast, the village of Itzig is characterized above all by its more rural and residential character. There are also several shops and restaurants.
Located between the two, Hespérange offers the best of both worlds, as does Alzingen.
The Fentange plateau is now a very residential area with large houses, close to the Cloche d'Or district.
Numerous educational facilities
The increase in the number of families with children has prompted the municipal administration to expand the educational infrastructure. Alzingen now has a new school, while the existing educational facilities have been expanded.
The municipality of Hesperange offers schools with canteens and childcare services (Itzig and Fentange), allowing children to stay at school for longer.
The L'Enfant Roi nursery in Howald will take good care of your children from a very young age.
Leisure activities in the municipality of Hesperange
Hespérange offers a wide range of sports facilities. Residents have access to soccer and basketballcourts , a sports hall, a beach volleyball court, a pétanquecourt , a cyclocross track, and a skate park. There is also the YOYO indoor amusement park.
Hespérange also has a music school with more than 400 students enrolled in over 30 different musical disciplines. Group and individual lessons are available.
There are also numerous walking trails to explore around the municipality. A detailed description of these trails can be found on the municipality's website, hesperange.lu.
The municipality of Hesperange is also home to the famous breast cancer charity run, the Broschtkriibslaf, organized as part of Pink October.
Public transport in Hesperange
Several buses serve Hespérange. A study on a bypass around Hespérange is still under consideration in order to relieve congestion in the town, which is saturated at rush hour. The project is expected to be completed in 2024.
Howald station provides train service to Luxembourg station.
The T1 tram line runs from Findel Airport to Howald in one direction and to Cloche d'Or and the Luxembourg Stadium district in the other.
Sustainable mobility is encouraged with the Vel'oh system, as well as the Flexibus system, which takes you to the address of your choice.
For tourists, there is also a campsite in Alzingen. Convenient and not far from the city!
