Nonprofit organizations and volunteering
Are you an expat in Luxembourg looking to volunteer? Below you’ll find a selection of non-profits and community organizations where you can get involved and participate in meaningful projects.
Volunteering can also be an excellent opportunity for expats’ spouses to better navigate the various stages of living abroad, particularly the initial adjustment and adaptation phases. It allows you to meet new people and combat loneliness.
Poverty and Precariousness in Luxembourg
Although Luxembourg is known for its residents’ high standard of living, poverty, precariousness, and the need for assistance remain present. Approximately 40% of households with three or more children may be vulnerable to these situations, primarily due to the high cost of housing.
Government assistance is available to support the most disadvantaged households, but it is not always sufficient to meet their needs.
Since 2024, organized begging has been banned on certain streets in the Gare and Ville-Haute neighborhoods between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. To support people in need, the city collaborates with several local organizations.
Tip: Donations made to organizations are generally tax-deductible.
