Nonprofit organizations and volunteering
Are you an expatriate in Luxembourg and want to get involved as a volunteer? Below are a few associations recognized as being of public interest in Luxembourg that will allow you to participate in solidarity projects.
Volunteering can also be a way for expatriate spouses to more easily navigate the different phases of expatriation, particularly the confrontation and adaptation phases.
Poverty and precariousness in Luxembourg
Although Luxembourg is often renowned for the high standard of living enjoyed by its residents, poverty, precariousness, and the need for all kinds of assistance are nonetheless present in the country. To help those in need, there are several solidarity projects in many areas in the Grand Duchy.
It is important to note that nearly 40% of households with three or more children are at risk of falling into precariousness. The reasons for this are mainly related to housing, the cost of which is placing an increasingly heavy burden on household budgets.
Government assistance is provided to the most disadvantaged households to help them. But this is not enough.
Since 2024, organized begging has been prohibited in Luxembourg on certain streets in the Gare and Ville-Haute districts between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. To help the most disadvantaged, the city has partnered with several associations.
All of the organizations listed below are open to volunteers if you would like to get involved in a cause.
Don't forget that donations to associations are, in most cases, tax deductible.
