A distanceEvery year in March, Luxembourg rallies together for a major charity event: Relay for Life. Organized by the Cancer Foundation, this event symbolizes solidarity with cancer patients and their loved ones. Each year, several thousand walkers and runners take turns in teams over 24 hours on the track at La Coque in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
The 22nd edition of Relay for Life will be held on March 21 and 22, 2026, offering everyone the opportunity to unite against this disease.
The Relay for Life is much more than just a race; it is a demonstration of unwavering support for those fighting cancer. For 24 hours, teams of walkers and runners take turns on the track at the Coque Sports Center, symbolizing the relentless struggle of patients and their families against the disease. 15,000 people participated in Relay for Life 2025 in Luxembourg!
During Relay for Life, the relay runners bring a note of hope through their unwavering commitment. By showing this outpouring of solidarity for cancer patients and their loved ones, Relay for Life helps to give them strength and courage.
This ongoing commitment, even in the middle of the night, is a source of hope and courage for all those affected by cancer, whether directly or indirectly: patients, families, and friends.
Registration for Relay for Life 2026 opens on October 23, 2025. Teams wishing to participate in person at La Coque must register quickly, as places are limited. To participate in Relay for Life, you must form teams of between 24 and 48 people. Teams can register in one of the following categories: associations, schools (high schools, universities, etc.), companies and institutions, countries, healthcare professionals, or supporters (families, friends, etc.). La Coque can accommodate 300 teams.
Relay runners can participate by walking or running on the Coque track, organizing their time slots as they wish. Each participant can be alone on the track or accompanied by members of other teams. No space? You can participate remotely. In fact, there is no limit to the number of participants who can connect online. This means that anyone can participate from wherever they choose. In this case, teams can have as many members as they want. They must also take turns for a total of 24 hours. They can walk, run, or even swim wherever they want.
In total, 500 teams participated in La Coque and virtually in 2025. Participants raise funds to support cancer research. In 2025, more than €1,180,000 was raised to fight cancer. A record! Congratulations to all the participants and generous donors, who are growing in number and commitment every year!
The Relay for Life in Luxembourg is punctuated by iconic moments that reinforce the spirit of community and support:
Opening ceremony: It begins with a lap of honor by the "Survivors" accompanied by their "Caregivers," symbolizing resilience and mutual support. This moving moment is followed by the official launch of the relay by the teams.
Candlelight ceremony: This ceremony is a moment of intense reflection. It pays tribute to those who have lost their battle with cancer and celebrates the strength of those who continue to fight. A minute of silence is observed, and a symbolic word made from candles placed on the ground is revealed. This very moving ceremony carries an intense message of hope and love.
Side activities: Various activities are offered throughout the weekend. Participants can join creative workshops and visit information stands on cancer prevention and screening. Activities are planned for children and relaxation areas are available for participants.
