Pulvermühl, a family neighborhood undergoing redevelopment
The Pulvermühl Neighborhood in Luxembourg
The Pulvermühl neighborhood, known as Polvermillen in Luxembourgish, is a small neighborhood located along the Alzette River. Currently the least populated neighborhood in the City of Luxembourg, it is awaiting the redevelopment of its former abandoned industrial sites.
Located in the central-eastern part of the city, between the Cents and Hamm neighborhoods —from which it benefits from their development—it serves as one of the main gateways to the city. Situated close to downtown, it is appreciated for its green surroundings.

Atmosphere in the Pulvermühl neighborhood
The least populated neighborhood in the City of Luxembourg, Pulvermühl is a family-friendly neighborhood situated between the city and nature.
Like the Hamm neighborhood, this area was previously part of the municipality of Sandweiler until 1873. It separated from the Hamm neighborhood in 1920.
Housing in this neighborhood consists mainly of single-family homes from the 1880s and 1930s–50s, mixed with more recent constructions.
The long-awaited redevelopment of the “Polfermillen” industrial sites is expected to breathe new life into the Pulvermühl neighborhood. The Polfermillen site was home to a mill, then a cotton mill and a cloth factory in the 19th century. A laundry and a hoisting company set up operations there in the 20th century. For the time being, the site is still undergoing decontamination work.
This development project for the historic site includes 210 new housing units (houses and apartments), 1,600 m² of office space, and 3,000 m² of additional green space.

The neighborhood benefits from its prime location along the Alzette River. It is one of the most popular routes for walking and cycling in Luxembourg.
This neighborhood also holds a hidden gem for walks or picnics. The abandoned former textile factory “Schlaïfmillen” has been brought back to life by artists who have renovated the old mill. They gladly welcome visitors to show them their creations. This spot, at the bottom of Rue Godchaux, is magical, just a few minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
The Godchaux Circuit allows you to visit these somewhat timeless spots.

The Pulvermühl neighborhood isn’t really known for its nightlife. However, there is a famous Irish pub there, the Black Stuff.
Living in the Pulvermühl neighborhood in Luxembourg
The Pulvermühl neighborhood is located at the junction of several neighborhoods in the city of Luxembourg. It serves as a thoroughfare from the A1 highway exit into the city via the Irrgarten roundabout.
Away from this major thoroughfare in the capital, the atmosphere today is more like that of a village. The neighborhood is situated between the city and nature. The redevelopment of the former industrial site is expected to breathe new life into it, especially given its proximity to the Alzette River.
Please note that the number of transactions in the area is low, which explains the significant variations (see below).
