Located southwest of Luxembourg City, Merl is a quiet and sought-after residential neighborhood. It is appreciated for its family-friendly environment and green spaces, notably Merl Park. It offers a good quality of life with renowned educational institutions, such as the ISL (International School of Luxembourg), which attracts many expatriate families.
Conveniently located, it offers quick access to the city center while maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. Its real estate development remains controlled, with a mix of single-family homes and modern residences. However, as in other sought-after neighborhoods, real estate prices are relatively high.
It is adjacent to the neighborhoods of Belair, Hollerich, and Cessange.

Merl, a very green residential neighborhood in Luxembourg
Merl accounts for nearly 5% of the population of Luxembourg City. Located close to motorways and the Bouillon P+R park, the neighborhood offers a high quality of life, cultural venues, and beautiful spaces for relaxation and leisure. It is a safe bet, offering multiple advantages to its residents.
With Merl Park, the green lung of the Luxembourg capital, this neighborhood is the link between Luxembourg City and the town of Bertrange.
Bordering the chic Belair neighborhood and the dynamic Hollerich neighborhood, its population/area ratio makes it one of the most densely populated neighborhoods in Luxembourg.
Merl is one of the residential neighborhoods of Luxembourg City. It still has many undeveloped areas, particularly agricultural land to the west of the zone.
In the Middle Ages, the commune of Merl was part of the parish of Hollerich. The neighborhood belonged to the former Benedictine abbey of Munster before it was moved to the Grund. At the end of the 18th century, with the end of religious establishments, Merl became independent. The commune of Merl was then attached to the City of Luxembourg in 1920.

Schools: there is a Luxembourgish elementary school in the Merl neighborhood.
The huge Geesseknäppchen school campus includes the Luxembourg Conservatory of Music,the ISL (International School of Luxembourg), the Luxembourg secondary schools Athénée de Luxembourg, Aline Mayrisch, and Michel Rodange, as well as the School of Commerce and Management. The neighborhood is also home to the Kalinka Russian School.
Transport: Access to the city center is fairly easy from the Merl district. It is served by several bus lines with 19 bus stops. The motorways are also within easy reach. The Bouillon P+R car park is also located in the immediate vicinity.
There are several Veloh! stations in the neighborhood.
Green spaces: located onRue de Bragance, Merl Park is an iconic spot in the capital. It is one of the oldest playgrounds. Several facilities are available for children. The central pavilion houses a restaurant, ideal for a drink or lunch in the sun, overlooking the lake.
Merl, a cultural district of Luxembourg
Merl is a district of Luxembourg offering a range of cultural and sporting activities.
The Luxembourg Conservatory of Music teachesmore than 150 different disciplines. It is not only a renowned music school in Luxembourg and abroad, but also a dynamic cultural center.
Another cultural venue in the neighborhood is the Luxembourg National Theater (TNL). Its programming is deliberately European in order to meet the demands of the neighborhood's residents. The TNL was created in 1996 following Luxembourg's designation as European Capital of Culture. The Camoes Portuguese Cultural Center is also located in the area.
Several sports facilities are available to residents. The Merl neighborhood offers various playgrounds, a multi-sports field, the Prince Jean stadium, an equestrian center, a sports hall, and a gymnasium.
With areas still available for development, notably the site of the former Luxlait factory, Merl also offers opportunities for growth.
Our opinion on living in the Merl district of Luxembourg
Slightly off-center, the Merl district remains an interesting place to live, covering 2 km2. Well connected, it is ideal for families thanks to its quiet streets, quality of life, and cultural offerings, even if these seem insufficient in the eyes of residents.
The Place de France should be better promoted.
The neighborhood is very attractive to young professionals looking for a pleasant place to live close to their work.
