Once again , sportsmanship, joy, and good cheer will fill the streets and neighborhoods of Luxembourg City. The event is a must-see in Luxembourg, even for the less athletic. The event attracts more than 100,000 spectators along the route!
The history of the Luxembourg Marathon began in 2006 with the ING financial group. With its "Globe Runners" project, ING wanted to encourage everyone to improve their physical condition through an international running program.
Since its first edition, the Luxembourg Marathon has continued to generate enthusiasm among participants and supporters alike. Year after year, the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg has enjoyed growing success. Today, it is definitely THE annual sporting and festive event in the City of Luxembourg . Every year, the event is sold out with more than 16,000 runners across all disciplines. Registration closes earlier and earlier each year, and the waiting lists for race numbers in the various disciplines are getting longer. If you want to take part, don't delay in getting your race number!
Many companies also take advantage of this event to run as a team in the Team Run. It's an incredibleopportunity to enjoy a unique sporting experience as a company. Before the big day, internal training sessions are organized. Teams wear sportswear in the company's colors. Employees also organize a range of initiatives to prepare for this fabulous race.
The ING Luxembourg Marathon gives participants the opportunity to run through the streets of Luxembourg City. What's more , as the race takes place at night, the event is a unique experience.
Several races are available. The courses are suitable for all ages and levels, even though the event remains a legendary race attended by the world's greatest runners. Nevertheless, the half marathon, mini marathon, mini mini marathon, 5K for success, and Team Run allow those who are less athletic to try their hand at the event. The inclusive Roll & Run race is also an experience to be enjoyed by people with reduced mobility.
The ING Luxembourg Night Marathon also offers a wide range of entertainment. Throughout the course, samba groups, traditional orchestras, DJs, and thousands of supporters are on hand to cheer on the athletes. For the runners, it is a unique experience as the course passes through the most iconic neighborhoods of the capital. Everyone can enjoy the musical entertainment along the route. The atmosphere is very friendly and ultra-festive, with the Petrusse Valley lit up for the occasion with colorful lanterns. It's truly magical, carried by the festive atmosphere. The Kirchberg district is not to be outdone , with the start and finish of the race taking place at LuxExpo The Box. Completely decorated for the occasion, Luxembourg's exhibition space welcomes finishers in a hyper-festive atmosphere with light shows, pyrotechnics, and sound systems. An unforgettable finish for runners in the spotlight!
The popularity of running in recent years has benefited the event. But the success of the ING Night Marathon is also due to the quality of the organization and the various facilities available to runners.
To ensure the event is a success, more than 1,300 volunteers join the organization and support services each year. The police, fire department, emergency services, and City of Luxembourg services do everything they can to contribute to the success of this magnificent race.
The marathon is organized throughout the year. Each year, the concepts are rethought. The organizing team brings new innovations and surprises to regulars, spectators, and runners at each edition. It's worth noting that the organizing team starts preparing for the next edition the day after the event! Activities for children, interactive games using social media, goodies... The city of Luxembourg is decked out in orange to celebrate this event! So, what surprises will there be this year?
The Luxembourg Marathon welcomes all runners from the Grand Duchy, regardless of nationality. But participants also come from neighboring countries and even further afield. The youngest marathon runner is 3 years old, the oldest 83. In 2013, Josy Simon set a new world record for the 100 km in the M80 category.
The ING Night Marathon also works to help the most disadvantaged. Several associations are present at the event to raise funds for their charitable projects. This year, the associations Care, SOS Children's Villages, ONGD Fnel, and Unity Foundation are appealing to the generosity of the public. More information is available on the ING Night Marathon page.
For runners who want to take part in the event, there is only one piece of advice: get there early! As soon as registration opens in September, sign up on the ING Night Marathon page. On the day of the race, arrive at LuxExpo The Box before 4:30 p.m. so you can get ready at your leisure and avoid the rush before the start. You can also find our tips for preparing for your races here. Spectators are welcome to take to the streets of Luxembourg City on the day of the event. Cheer on the athletes—they need your support—and above all, have fun! A word of advice: be careful of traffic on that day. Many streets will be closed. Use the P+R car parks and travel by public transport. The tram will run until 2:30 a.m., with two interruptions between 6:40 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. between LuxExpo and Findel, then from 7:20 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. between the "Faïencerie" and "Théâtre" stops. Are you athletic and enjoy challenges? Participate in the DKV Urban Trail and the Mullerthal Ultra Trail for the most athletic. Do you enjoy swimming? The Euromeet, an international swimming competition, may also be of interest to you.
