Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee
The Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee (COSL) is the central sports organization in Luxembourg.
On the COSL website, you’ll find all the latest news about the upcoming Olympic Games or European Games, as well as information on athletes representing the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Today, the COSL represents more than 125,000 licensed athletes in Luxembourg. There are more than 1,500 sports clubs and over 60 sports federations or associations.
His Royal Highness Grand Duke Henri has been a member of the IOC since 1998. He succeeded his father, H.R.H. Grand Duke Jean.

Josy Barthel (1927–1992) was the first (and only) Luxembourger to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games. He achieved this feat in Helsinki in 1952 in the men’s 1,500-meter race.

CK Sports Center, racquet sports, and bowling
The CK Sports Center in Kockelscheuer is quite well-known. Originally intended for the well-being of CK Group employees, it is now open to everyone.
The sports complex is primarily dedicated to racquet sports (tennis, squash, badminton, padel). The Swedish tennis school www.estess.org offers tennis lessons.
The CK Center is also known for its 10 bowling lanes. You can spend an evening there with friends or family. Food is available on-site.

Classic races in Luxembourg
- The season opens with the Postlaf race in March. It takes place in the Cloche d'Or district of Luxembourg City and covers a distance of 10 km. This article also includes our tips for preparing for your races.
- The famous ING Night Marathon, which traditionally takes place in May.
- The DKV Urban Trail, which takes place a few weeks earlier.
- The JP Morgan City-Jogging and City-Walking in July.
- The Kulturlaf in Esch-sur-Alzette over 10, 16, and 21.1 km, organized in September, allows you to visit Luxembourg's industrial steel heritage.
- the Steel Run in Differdange is a "crazy" 11 km race in unique locations. It also takes place in September,
- The Color Run, sponsored by Baloise, will be held in Luxembourg for the first time in 2025. This ultra-fun race will take place in mid-September near the Luxembourg Stadium. The goal? To start with a white T-shirt at the beginning of the race and finish as colorful as possible after 5 kilometers.
- The Wine Route Half Marathon takes place along the Moselle at the end of September.
- The Sylversterlaf de Rambrouch takes place in the Luxembourg Ardennes. Held on December 31, it offers a warm-up to celebrate the start of the new year.

Trails in the heart of nature in Luxembourg
Luxembourg's forests offer beautiful landscapes and interesting trails, which can be flatter or more hilly depending on your level and preferences. The trails are accessible on the LetzTrail app.
For the more competitive and accomplished trail runners, take on the Mullerthal Ultra Trail in September in Luxembourg's Petite Suisse. Several races are available, from 10km to 11km for the most trained. This will allow you to earn 4 ITRA points. This race is also listed as a UTMB 100K index race.
The Äischdall Trail offers 6.11 and 21 km courses on the Luxembourg border for running or Nordic walking. The event takes place every year on August 15.
Outdoor fitness activities in Luxembourg
The City of Luxembourg provides outdoor fitness areas for all athletes to train in the open air. The equipment is accessible free of charge to anyone aged 12 and over.
These facilities are located:
- in Kockelscheuer, next to the Kockelscheuer P+R and the children's playground
- in the Petrusse Valley at 2 Rue Saint Quirin, next to the mini-golf course.
More and more municipalities are also incorporating these outdoor fitness facilities for their residents. Ask your local municipality for more information.
Cycling, Luxembourg the land of cycling
Are you a cycling enthusiast or fan?
Check out the many bike tours in this country that has produced some great cycling champions. The famous Charly Gaul and the Schleck brothers are Luxembourgish.
The Luxembourg Cycling Federation (FSCL) supports thousands of cycling enthusiasts. There are around forty cycling clubs in Luxembourg for all levels. VC Diekirch, ACC Contern, and LG Alzingen are among the most active. Whether you are an amateur or an aspiring professional, there are facilities to help you progress and share your passion.
Golf courses in Luxembourg and nearby
There are several golf courses in Luxembourg. Golfers flock to them as soon as the weather improves. Remember to book your tee time well in advance. Often, only members are allowed to play or participate in competitions.

On the French side, the Golf de Preisch is a lovely course. Green fees and memberships are less expensive there.

Skateboarding in Luxembourg
For skateboarding enthusiasts, Luxembourg has several skate parks. You can also attend skateboarding-related events.
Péitruss Luxembourg-Grund Skatepark
With a total surface area of 3,400 m², the Péitruss skatepark is located on Rue Saint Quirin ( in the Grund district of Luxembourg). This skateboard park blends in perfectly with the bucolic natural surroundings, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Skatepark site is environmentally friendly, with a skating area covering 2,500 m². Bordered by stones from the remains of the fortress, it features a 600 m² bowl surrounded by bleachers and a 600 m² street plaza.
Since 2017, the complex has hosted the Luxembourg International Skate Cup. This competition is a great success, attracting the best European skateboarders.
Indoor skatepark in Luxembourg-Hollerich
The Luxembourg-Hollerich district has an indoor skatepark at 5 Rue de l'Abattoir. BMX lessons are available every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Skatepark in Luxembourg-Gasperich
Skateboard enthusiasts will find several ramps and slopes for practicing their sport at Muehlenweg in the Gasperich district .
Belval Plaza Skate Park – Esch-sur-Alzette
Covering an area of almost 700 m², this outdoor skatepark in Esch-sur-Alzette is reminiscent of an urban square. It is equipped with the latest innovations in urban furniture for skateboarding (rails, walls, stairs, etc.).
Red Rock Skate Park – Schifflange
Schifflange has the largest concrete skatepark in the country and the Greater Region! It has no official closing time. It is even lit up during the summer until 10 p.m. Admission is free. It is located on Chemin de Bergem (near the multipurpose hall).
Winter sports in Luxembourg
Ice skating and ice rinks
For fans of ice skating, curling, hockey, or ice karting, there are several ice rinks in Luxembourg. Please note that they are only open during the winter season.
Kockelscheuer indoor ice rink
Kockelscheuer has a large ice rink on the outskirts of Luxembourg City.
It is onlyopen from mid-September to the end of March. It is also closed on certain public holidays. The ice rink opens exceptionally for events such as the Spring Cup in March/April or the Ice Hockey Tournament in May.
For safe skating, helmets and ice skates can be rented on site. With the Pingo School, you can also learn to ice skate in group or private lessons.

Outdoor ice rink in Beaufort
The town of Beaufort in the northeast of the country has the oldest ice rink in Luxembourg. It has been in existence since 1969. Located outdoors, it is covered by a canvas marquee and is only open during the winter season. Skates can be hired and skating assistance is available.
It is also possible to go ice karting, by reservation only.
"Knuedler on ice" ice rink, Christmas events in Luxembourg
The "Knuedler on ice" ice rink is part of the traditional Christmas market entertainment , much to the delight of families.

Galgebierg natural ice rink in Esch-sur-Alzette
As soon as weather conditions allow and temperatures are cold enough, you can skate in a natural setting at Galgebierg Park in Esch-sur-Alzette.
The Galgebierg natural ice rink offers skating enthusiasts fantastic natural conditions in which to enjoy their favorite sport. Located in Esch-sur-Alzette Municipal Park , it offers a skating area covering almost 2,000 m²! In summer, the surface is a huge playground for the children of Esch.
Skiing in Luxembourg and nearby
Do you miss the wide open mountain spaces where you can enjoy winter sports? Did you know that you can ski in Luxembourg, or at least in the immediate vicinity? In fact , some facilities even offer skiing in the middle of summer!
Unfortunately, the cross-country and downhill ski slopes at Weiswampach in northern Luxembourg are now closed due to insufficient snowfall in recent years.
A little further afield, however, you can ski in Anlier, between Martelange and Arlon, or in Odeigne-Magney or Saint-Hubert. Be sure to check in advance that there is sufficient snow cover.
Further afield, in the Hautes Fagnes in Belgium, the Baraque de Fraiture welcomes you in a picturesque setting.
Ovifat in the Province of Liège is also worth a visit for its skiing and sledding activities.
Snowworld in Amnéville, France, is open all year round. You can even ski there in the middle of summer, at minus 5 degrees Celsius!
And don't forget the Vosges in France, located about a three-hour drive from Luxembourg. These beautiful mountains are ideal for an invigorating and sporty weekend, offering a variety of rejuvenating sites. We highly recommend the spa resort of Vittel, ideal for a weekend or a week of pure relaxation.

Swimming lessons in Luxembourg
Swimming lessons are in high demand in Luxembourg. Waiting lists can sometimes be long, up to a year or even more... Remember to register your children well in advance. For more information, contact your local municipal swimming pool.
The Swimming Luxembourg association offers a swimming school. Children can learn to swim from the age of 3. The association also offers advanced swimming lessons. You can also take part in competitions, synchronized swimming, water polo, and aqua aerobics. Lessons take place in Cents, Dommeldange, Gasperich, Bonnevoie, etc.
From the age of 4, Little Swim offers swimming lessons in groups of up to 12 children, for beginners or advanced swimmers. Lessons take place at two locations: the Howald swimming pool and the Lycée technique du Centre swimming pool(Luxembourg-Limpertsberg).
Soccer or rugby matches at the Luxembourg Stadium
When it was built, the Luxembourg Stadium caused quite a stir due to its budget and construction delays.
Nevertheless, it can now accommodate nearly 10,000 spectators. Classified as a Category 4 stadium, it can host international football and rugby matches. It replaces the former Josy Barthel Stadium, which is set to be demolished to make way for a new neighborhood to be built on Route d'Arlon in Luxembourg.
The Luxembourg Stadium is located in Ban de Gasperich, in the direction of Kockelscheueur. It will eventually be served by the tramway.

Throughout the year, the City of Luxembourg organizes more than 160 sports and fitness classes. These classes are open to everyone, regardless of their physical condition. They take place at more than 30 different locations, indoors or outdoors depending on the season.
Choose a specific class or purchase a pass that gives you access to all classes. Residents of the City of Luxembourg benefit from a preferential rate. They also have priority when registering for activities.

Hiking and sports equipment in youth hostels
Luxembourg's youth hostels offer high-quality accommodation and sports facilities. They offer a wide range of activities, both group and individual.
You can go hiking or enjoy other sports activities such as mountain biking or road cycling. Marked trails connect the various youth hostels. They allow you to discover Luxembourg's beautiful landscapes and enjoy low-cost accommodation.
