Parking lots, parking meters, residential parking
It is relatively easy to park in Luxembourg, whether on the street or in parking garages. However , in most cases, you will need to pay a parking fee. There are several ways to plan your parking and pay for it.
Parking in parking garages in Luxembourg
In Luxembourg, parking garages generally charge between 1 and 3 euros per hour. Rates are posted at the entrance or on each garage’s website.
Once your vehicle is parked, you can stay as long as you like. You’ll pay when you exit, based on your actual parking duration. Be sure to keep your ticket with you. You’ll need it to re-enter the parking garage through the pedestrian entrance, pay for your parking, and retrieve your car.
Some parking lots allow you to pay for parking on demand or via a subscription system using the “Indigo Neo” mobile app, which recognizes your vehicle’s license plate. The entire process is then completely contactless.
More and more parking lots also recognize your license plate. All you need to do is pay at the machine at the pedestrian entrance using the ticket issued upon entry. The barrier will then open automatically to let your vehicle out.
It is also possible to pay directly upon entry and exit by presenting your credit card at the vehicle entrance machine. You just need to use the same card when exiting.

Residential Parking Permit in Luxembourg
If you are a resident of Luxembourg City, you are eligible for a residential parking permit.
Permits reserved for residents of Luxembourg City
The parking permit is reserved for residents of Luxembourg City. It allows them to park for free and without time limits in their residential neighborhood.
Applications for a resident parking permit must be supported by a certificate of residence from the City of Luxembourg and a vehicle registration certificate issued in the applicant’s name.
Residential parking permits in Luxembourg City are issued per individual and per vehicle.
The number of parking permits per person is now limited to a maximum of 3. The first permit is free; subsequent permits are subject to a sliding-scale fee. Registering multiple vehicles under a single permit is prohibited.
How the residential parking permit works
With the resident permit, you are also entitled to 2 hours of free parking throughout the city of Luxembourg. To do so, you must place the white parking disc—issued at the same time as the resident parking permit—behind your windshield. Please note that the maximum parking duration may vary by neighborhood. In this case, don’t forget to note your estimated departure time!
Resident parking permits must be placed behind your vehicle’s windshield. They must be visible from outside the vehicle. Parking permits come in three different types: annual, temporary (valid for 20 days), or visitor (valid for 3 months at a cost of 16 euros).

This is the case, among others, in the towns of Esch-sur-Alzette, Pétange, Hespérange, Differdange, Strassen, Bettembourg, … These municipalities offer residential parking permits to residents of the municipality. This allows them to park for free in certain neighborhoods.
Please contact the administration of your municipality of residence directly.
If your car is registered abroad, you can obtain a temporary permit valid for 6 months.
EU parking disc for blue zones
Certain areas allow limited-time parking using a blue parking disc, as provided for by the European Union Highway Code.
Blue zones are marked by blue signs with a white “P” and a parking disc symbol.
The permitted parking time is generally 1 hour and 30 minutes with the blue disc. It must be displayed prominently behind the windshield. You must indicate your arrival time on the parking disc. You can purchase these blue discs at gas stations.
