Event description

Every year in March, a major charity event takes place in the spring at La Coque: the Relay for Life. It's an opportunity for all participants to show their unwavering support for cancer patients.

14,000 people took part in the Relay for Life 2024 in Luxembourg. See you in 2025 for another edition! The exact dates are not yet known, but we'll be sure to keep you informed.

A 24-hour relay to support cancer patients

The eagerly-awaited Relay for Life is organized by the Cancer Foundation. Every year, over 13,000 walkers and runners take turns in teams for 24 hours on the Coque trail.

Cancer leaves no respite for sufferers and their loved ones. During the Relay for Life, relay runners bring a note of hope through their unfailing commitment, even in the middle of the night. By showing solidarity with cancer sufferers and their families, the Relay for Life helps to restore strength and courage to sufferers and their carers.

Many people in Luxembourg get involved in each edition of Relay for Life, providing personal support to patients.

In 2023, 791,000 euros were raised for the fight against cancer. Well done to all participants and generous donors, more numerous and more committed every year!

How can I take part in Relay for Life?

To take part, teams must be made up of between 24 and 48 people. Participants can be registered in one of the following categories: associations, schools (high schools, universities, etc.), companies and institutions, countries, healthcare professions or supporters (family, friends, etc.).

Relay runners walk or run in the Relay for Life in the Hull for a minimum of 30 minutes to 1 hour. Each runner walks alone, accompanied by one of the other team members. La Coque can accommodate 300 teams.

It is also possible to register for virtual team participation. Teams can be made up of as many members as required. Teams take it in turns to run for a total of 24 hours over the 2 days of the Relay for Life. They can walk or run wherever they like.

300 teams can be accommodated at La Coque. In 2024, a further 225 teams took part in the virtual event.

Participants raise funds to support cancer research.

Relay for Life highlights

The Relay for Life has two key moments: the opening ceremony and the candle ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, the first lap of honour by the "Survivors" with their "Caregiver" sets the tone. Following them, the first relay runners take to the track for 24 hours of sharing.

The emotional candle-lighting ceremony brings this moment of solidarity to a close with a minute's silence. For each edition, a new word is unveiled. Everyone receives a message of hope and love in the fight against the disease.
