Run in The Dark Luxembourg, a charity run that lights up the world!

Rives de Clausen, Luxembourg
Health – Wellness

A global race, in the dead of night

Every year in November, thousands of runners gather in more than 50 cities around the world to participate in Run in The Dark. This iconic night race brings together nearly 25,000 participants each year in support of research into paralysis. The global starting signal is traditionally given in Dublin at 8 p.m., marking the start of simultaneous races in other cities. The beauty of this race lies in the fact that it takes place in the dark. Only the runners’ flashing armbands provide light, symbolizing hope for those who cannot walk.

A charity run in Luxembourg since 2014

Since 2014, the city of Luxembourg has been one of the host cities for this global initiative. The race traditionally starts at the Rives de Clausen at 8 p.m. Participants can choose between two routes, accessible to all: 5 km or 10 km through the city. The 2023 edition was a resounding success, both globally and locally. In Luxembourg, nearly 2,000 runners took part. And over 38,000 euros were raised for research into paralysis. In 2024, more than 2,250 runners took part in the race. The total amount raised for the 2024 edition is not yet known.

Why run Run in The Dark?

Participating in Run in The Dark isn’t just about lacing up your sneakers for a simple night run. Above all, it’s a show of solidarity and support for people living with paralysis. Every registration and every donation directly contributes to research aimed at helping people with paralysis regain the use of their legs. The cause has its roots in the inspiring story of Mark Pollock, an Irish athlete who became paralyzed following an accident. Mark Pollock, who was also the first blind person to reach the South Pole, continues to spread a message of hope and resilience. While he was still in the hospital, his friends organized the first edition of the Run in The Dark race. Since then, the movement has gone global, and every year, more and more people participate. Every year, thousands of people around the world become paralyzed as a result of illness or accidents. Recent advances in medical research show that there is hope for improved mobility through nerve regeneration and brain-machine interfaces. Your support for Run in The Dark helps make these dreams a reality.
