Figures on the New Car Market in Luxembourg
According to the latest figures published by the SNCA—Luxembourg’s National Motor Vehicle Registration Authority—new vehicle registrations accounted for 44% of total registrations in 2024. This represents a 5% decrease compared to 2023, while the total number of registrations had itself fallen by 4.4% compared to 2023.
In other words, the Autofestival is a major event for dealerships, given that they generate approximately 35% of their annual revenue during this period. Subsidies for electric vehicles were therefore not enough to encourage consumers to replace their vehicles, even though the number of electric vehicles continues to rise.
Electric vehicle registrations now account for more than 27% of new registrations, representing a 15.6% increase year-over-year. Conversely, diesel vehicle registrations continue to decline. They are the least popular vehicle type, trailing behind gasoline, electric, and hybrid vehicles.
On the other hand, the number of motorcycles continues to rise, with more than 28,000 now on the road—an increase of over 3% compared to 2023. Fellow motorcyclists, don’t forget that the ACL offers “Back in the Saddle” days!
