Nurses – home care
In Luxembourg, you can benefit from medical care at home, on medical prescription, in many cases such as injections, stitches, postoperative staples to remove, blood tests, bandage changes, etc.
Medical expenses can be reimbursed under certain conditions.

The nursing profession is a regulated profession in Luxembourg. To work as a nurse, you need a diploma recognized by the Ministry of Health. A nursing diploma issued by a country other than the Grand Duchy may be recognized on request and under certain conditions.
Several companies are also involved in home medical, but also for domestic help for the elderly, dependent or disabled peaople, such as assistance with personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, clothing, mobility. This care will be reimbursed by the insurance dependency as soon as the file was instructed beforehand. Among the companies authorized to perform this care, we find

Laboratories – medical and blood tests
Do you have to take medical or blood tests? You can go to Luxembourg laboratories at your convenience. Ask about the opening hours by calling beforehand.
These expenses for analysis and home care may also be covered by the health insurance funds.
For your blood tests you can go to private laboratories or to the National Health Laboratory, a public institution in Dudelange under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. Blood tests: Mon.-Fri., 7.30 am-9 am.
AIDS test – HIV-Berodung Croix-Rouge
To take a quick, free and anonymous AIDS test, you can go, without prior appointment or medical prescription to any hospital in the country or to the HIV Berodung service of the Red Cross.

Where to give your blood in Luxembourg ?
In Luxembourg, if you want to donate your blood, you need to go to the Red Cross. Indeed, nowadays, it is the only Luxembourgian institution to be empowered to collect the blood of donors, at the blood transfusion Centre.
How to do give your blood in Grand-Duchy
A very important thing to know : to become a donor in Luxembourg, be aware that you are subject to issue a specific registration request, in order to be included in the “Donors Register”. Only the persons who are registered can give blood. To register, several possibilities : complete the form online, go to the Red Cross or contact them, either by phone at the 27 55 4000, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. After an interview, a few administrative procedures as well as a medical examination, you will be then recorded as an official donor on the Luxembourgian territory.
What conditions to give blood ?
To become a donor in Luxembourg, there are however a few mandatory requirements : be between 18 and 60 years old, weigh at least 50 kg and be in good health.
How often give your blood ?
Once registered in the Donors Register, you will then be invited 3 or 4 times a year to come and donate your blood. To do this, bring your invitation, your donor card and/or identity card, as well as the completed follow-up survey you got as you came for the very first time. You will then be taken care of for a total blood donation, (with a duration of 6 to 12 minutes depending on the donors), or for a plasma or platelets donation (of a duration of approximately 30 to 45 minutes).
Good to know about blood donation if you are working
Please check with your employer : in Luxembourg, some companies even give their employees 2 to 4 hours so that they can donate their blood. Therefore, no more excuse for not contributing to saving lives.
