The state is present in certain sectors, such as hospitals, the social sector and certain emblematic Luxembourg companies, such as Arcelor Mittal in the industrial sector or Luxair, the Luxembourg airline.

Luxembourg civil servants and government employees

In November 2022, the Luxembourg government employed 32,800 civil servants and state employees. The average monthly salary in the civil service is 8,688 euros. Civil servants are among the best-paid sectors in Luxembourg.

On January 1, 2023, the municipal administration of the City of Luxembourg employed 4,326 people, including 1,719 civil servants.
