St George’s International School, Luxembourg

Choosing a school is about more than curriculum and qualifications. It is about finding a place where children will be known and valued, where they can form friendships and where they will receive the support and inspiration they need to flourish.

St George’s International School, Luxembourg combines academic excellence with exceptional pastoral care in a warm, international community. More than 850 students aged 3 to 18+ learn together at the school, representing 73 nationalities and a remarkable range of languages, cultures and experiences.

For families who are new to Luxembourg, this international character can make the transition to a new country feel considerably easier. Many members of the school community understand the experience of relocation and the mixture of excitement and uncertainty that can accompany it. For families who have lived in Luxembourg for many years, St George’s offers an established, outward-looking community with strong connections to the country it calls home.

Wisdom begins with wonder

St George’s motto, “Wisdom begins with wonder”, captures its belief that excellent education begins with curiosity.

In Early Years, children aged 3 and 4 learn through a carefully planned balance of structured activities, child-initiated play and meaningful interaction with adults. They are encouraged to ask questions, explore their surroundings and build the confidence, communication skills and independence that provide the foundations for future learning.

In Primary, the curriculum combines strong foundations in English, maths, science and humanities with specialist and additional learning in French, Luxembourgish, art, music, physical education, computing and food technology. Based on the National Curriculum for England, it is adapted to reflect the school’s international community and Luxembourgish setting.

In Secondary, students follow internationally recognised pathways leading to IGCSE, A level and BTEC qualifications. Small classes and experienced subject specialists allow teachers to understand each student’s strengths, monitor progress closely and provide personalised guidance. Pastoral, additional educational needs, and English as an Additional Language teams contribute to a network of support designed to help students succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

The school’s academic outcomes demonstrate the strength of this approach. Among the graduating class of 2026, 72 per cent of A level results were graded A* to B, while 100 per cent of BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications were awarded Distinction or Distinction*. At GCSE level, 97 per cent of results achieved Grade 4 or above and 68 per cent achieved Grades 7 to 9. These consistent exceptional achievements mean students are offered places at their preferred universities across Europe, the UK and further afield.

St George’s is recognised among the top 100 private schools globally by Spear’s. It is also a member of HMC and a COBIS Teaching School, reflecting the school’s international standing and commitment to educational quality, leadership and professional learning.

Yet academic excellence at St George’s is not defined by examination results alone. Students are taught to think critically, communicate confidently and apply their knowledge to real situations. They are encouraged to remain curious, persevere when learning becomes difficult and develop the judgement needed to navigate an increasingly complex world.

A place where everyone belongs

Internationalism at St George’s can be seen in everyday classroom discussions, friendships and shared experiences. Children learn alongside classmates from across the world. Different perspectives enrich learning and help students develop curiosity, empathy and respect for others. At the same time, each child is encouraged to feel confident in their own identity.

The school’s aim is for every member of its community to feel welcomed, safe and included. Across the school, students explore questions of culture, fairness, identity and social responsibility through established curriculum subjects and age-appropriate discussion.

This inclusive approach is supported by the values of courage, honesty, kindness, respect and wisdom. Students are encouraged to face challenges with confidence, build authentic relationships and show compassion towards the people around them.

What truly distinguishes St George’s is the personal nature of the school experience. The school is intentionally a place where every child is known, supported and encouraged to discover their individual strengths. New students are helped to settle in, while class visits and taster days allow prospective pupils to experience school life before joining.

This sense of belonging matters. Children are more likely to embrace challenges and participate fully when they feel secure, understood and part of their community. At St George’s, academic ambition and human connection go hand in hand.

Part of Luxembourg’s international future

St George’s has been part of Luxembourg’s educational landscape since 1990, when it opened with just 12 students. As the country has developed into an international centre for organisations, businesses and talent, the school has grown alongside it.

Access to outstanding international education helps families choose Luxembourg as a place to live, work and build their future. St George’s is proud to play a role in that continuing story. Its curriculum incorporates local perspectives, students participate in community initiatives and the school works with organisations and other schools across the country.

For parents, choosing a school means imagining not only what their child will learn, but also who they might become. St George’s offers an environment where children can pursue academic excellence without losing the joy of discovery, where differences are celebrated and where every student is encouraged to feel that they belong.

In a country shaped by international connections, St George’s reflects Luxembourg at its best: welcoming, outward-looking and enriched by the people who call it home.
