LuxembourgRameau's Violin at the Philharmonie
What if the violin helped you rediscover Rameau in a whole new light? With Le Violon de Rameau, the Philharmonie Luxembourg invites you to immerse yourself in French Baroque music, in an intimate setting where every nuance comes into its own. Far from the grandeur of large orchestras, this concert highlights a subtle musical dialogue between two exceptional artists.
At the heart of this program, violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte and harpsichordist and organist William Christie join forces. Following a highly acclaimed first collaboration in 2021, they reunite to explore the world of Jean-Philippe Rameau, an iconic figure of French Baroque music, renowned for the expressive richness and modernity of his compositions.
The evening opens with an improvised prelude in E major, before taking the audience on a journey through several of Rameau’s stage works. The program highlights the diversity of his repertoire, ranging from dance music to lyrical arias and dramatic scenes.
Among the works performed:
The concert is further enriched by works from other composers contemporary to Rameau, offering additional insight into this musical period. Pieces by Toussaint Bordet, Jacques Aubert, Charles-Antoine Branche, Jean-Baptiste de Cupis de Camargo, Antoine Dauvergne, Louis Aubert the Younger, and André-Joseph Exaudet round out the program.
Presented as part of the Baroque Sessions, this concert emphasizes intimacy with the audience. In the warm atmosphere of the Chamber Music Hall, the listening experience is more direct, carried by the richness of the timbres and the interpretive freedom characteristic of Baroque music.
This concert is an invitation to discover or rediscover French Baroque through a sensitive and accessible performance. Combining virtuosity, finesse, and listening pleasure, Le Violon de Rameau offers an immersive musical experience, ideal for both enthusiasts and the curious.
