But above all, the Duck Race is:
So you too can sponsor your duck so it can be at the starting line for the next Duck Race.
The Duck Race is a race featuring ducks. But not just any ducks: plastic ducks. Andfor the occasion, over 20,000 ducks will take the starting line!
Traditionally, the Duck Race starts on the forecourt of Neimenster Abbey in the Grund, on the banks of the Alzette. The race begins at 3:00 PM.
During this event, regional cuisine and a variety of activities await participants, turning this unique race into a true celebration featuring DJ sets.
Starting at noon, the Duck Race offers plenty of activities for children. Food stands allow visitors to sample local specialties.
Each participant purchases one or more numbered tickets available online on the Duck Race website, thereby sponsoring one or more ducks.
The numbered ducks are then released with great fanfare into the Alzette River. Spectators then watch the race of these thousands of plastic ducks. The fastest ones will help their sponsors win the fantastic prizes up for grabs.
The Duck Race is very popular in Luxembourg. In addition to being fun and festive, this race is also highly praised for its charitable aspect. In fact, all proceeds from the race are donated in full to charitable organizations.
Each year, organizations working for the well-being of children or adults share tens of thousands of euros. They will be on site to present their projects aimed at helping the most disadvantaged and those in need.
In 2026, the organizations Fondation Jugend- an Drogenhëllef, Study-Help, Asha 4 Children, 2care2share, Hand an Hand fir Africa, Fondation EPI, and L'Amicale en faveur de l'inclusion were honored.
Charitable giving is a great reason to join the race! Want to participate?
Simply visit the Duck Race Luxembourg website to buy a ticket and put your duck on the starting line. The last edition raised 90,000 euros, which was donated to the charities.
What prizes await the winners? Numerous prizes are awarded to the race winners. Every year, a car is awarded to the lucky sponsor of the first duck to cross the finish line!
In the 2026 , the first prize was a Volkswagen TROC car. The second prize was a €3,000 gift card. Airline tickets, food tastings, and many other prizes reward the fastest ducks.
While the prizes up for grabs are a good reason to enter your duck in the Duck Race, the event is also very appealing to spectators. Admission is free, though the number of spectators is limited to 2,900 due to the venue’s layout.
Many sponsors support the Duck Race, including Spuerkeess as the banking partner and the insurance company Lalux for insurance coverage. The wine and crémant producer Bernard-Massard is also on board .
So mark your calendars for the next edition to enjoy a relaxing and fun time with family or friends. For more ideas on leisure activities and outings in Luxembourg, click here
