Nopeschfest, Neighbours' Day in Luxembourg
Nopeschfest, Neighbours' Day in Luxembourg

Event description

With spring upon us, we're all keen to stay out in the evenings and enjoy the fine weather. So why not extend the evenings and celebrate with your neighbors?

Good news: Nopeschfest is back again this year.

The Nopeschfest is coordinated by the Association Luxembourgeoise des Solidarités de Proximité (ALSP). More than 40 communes take part.

Nopeschfest May 24, 2024

Once again, neighbors can get together at the Nopeschfest on May 24, 2024. At this neighborhood party, neighbors are invited to drink, eat and get to know each other on the streets of their neighborhood.

Don't know your neighbors yet? This is the perfect time to meet them and make new friends.

What is the Nopeschfest?

The Nopeschfest is a chance to meet your neighbors and spend some convivial time together. Held right in the heart of your neighborhood, on the street or in the courtyard of your building, Neighbors' Day is an opportunity to share a convivial meal and a drink together.

Regardless of age or nationality, everyone can take part in this good time of neighborly exchange, without worrying about noise.

If the weather's fine, it's the perfect time to bring along salads, quiches or drinks to share. The Nopeschfest is also the perfect opportunity to let your neighbors taste your specialties or those of your country. What better way to get to know each other?

Some neighborhood committees take the opportunity to meet in the local playground.

Once the party's over, you'll have the satisfaction of finally getting to know your neighbors. You'll be able to exchange much more than just "Moïen".

Logistical support for communes during Neighbours' Day

For this convivial event, local authorities are actively encouraging neighbors to get together.

Tables, benches and even drinks are available on request from your local authority. You can also pick up invitations to distribute in your local letterboxes.

Roads may even be closed for the occasion. Don't hesitate to inform your local council of your initiatives. All the necessary arrangements will be made to leave plenty of room for children. They will be able to play without any risk and take over the street under the watchful eyes of their neighbors.

Take the initiative and organize a party in your neighborhood. Contact your local authority for logistical details, and post messages in your neighbors' mailboxes. It's always more fun to organize a group event.

And who knows? You could make friends for life?

Invitations and downloads for advertising are available on the Nopeschfest. lu website. You can also like the Facebook page and share your photos.

Guide to good neighborliness in Luxembourg

No noise for your neighbors

Each municipality establishes time slots outside of which it is forbidden to make noise above a certain number of decibels. So if you don't want to annoy your neighbors, and want to keep up good relations, make sure you respect these times.

Contact your local authority for details of the municipal by-law.

If you're having a party with friends, be sure to tell your neighbors in advance. Respect the indicated decibel level, close your windows and turn down the sound after a certain hour. If you don't, you risk a visit from the Grand Ducal Police and a fine. You'll find the Grand Ducal regulations here.

Generally, gardening work is permitted during the day and only on Saturdays. It's forbidden to mow your lawn or cut wood before 8 a.m. and from 6.30 p.m./7 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays.

What's more, you're not allowed to run your vehicle's engine, even outside your door. See winter regulations

Pets and good neighbors in Luxembourg

Pets are full-fledged family members in Luxembourg. Nevertheless, for the respect of all, please respect your neighbors and public spaces. Remember to pick up after your dog. Green spaces are not dog toilets... Local children often come to play in them. So think of them and avoid leaving your pet's little (or big) needs lying around.

Train your dog. Even if your neighbors' gardens aren't fenced, they're still private.

Similarly, if your neighbor's cat invites itself into your home, avoid feeding it. Cats are independent animals. Imagine the disappointment of your neighbors and their children when their cat spends his days at your place because you feed him.

Cleanliness and respect for public and private spaces in Luxembourg

Even if you're at home, it's unpleasant for your neighbors to pass litter or objects lying around.

Don't forget to clean up in front of your home and get rid of your rubbish. Make your living environment pleasant for everyone. If you have garbage, please consult this page.

Conflict with your neighbor? Call on a mediator

If you come into conflict with your neighbor, the first thing to do is to talk things over. Explaining things and communicating sympathetically are often enough to prevent conflicts from escalating. Can't do it and you've already tried? A mediator can help.
