Held every spring, the Postlaf Luxembourg is an iconic running event that offers residents, including expats, a unique opportunity to kick off the Luxembourg sports season.

What is the Postlaf an der Stad in Luxembourg?

With a distance of 10 km, the Postlaf an der Stad race is an excellent opportunity to prepare for other upcoming races in Luxembourg, such as the ING Night Marathon, the Urban Trail, and local trail events.

Even children can take part in the Postlaf. The Post4Kids Run is specially designed for younger runners. The distances to be covered are 500 meters for children between 5 and 8 years old, and 1,000 meters for children between 9 and 15 years old. These courses encourage children to experience the joys of running. Families can also share a fun and friendly sporting event.

Organization of the Postlaf race in Luxembourg

The Postlaf is organized every year by the Amicale de la Poste. It attracted nearly 2,500 participants in 2024.

Start and route

The Postlaf starts at 10 a.m. at the Cloche d'Or, Rue Emile Bian in the Gasperich district. During this event, runners set off from Gasperich and then criss-cross the Cessange district of the Luxembourg capital. Traffic is of course closed to vehicles in the streets concerned. If you need to drive on that day, avoid the area.

A charitable dimension to the Postlaf Luxembourg

Postlaf an der Stad also supports a charitable cause. Donations from participants are given to Caritas Luxembourg to support families in need through the "Caritas Buttek" social grocery stores. This gesture of solidarity allows everyone to contribute, whether by running or by making a donation directly online.

Our partner Lalux is also a sponsor of the Postlaf.

Access and comfort for Postlaf participants in Luxembourg

Free shuttles connect the nearby P+R Howald and the starting point at Cloche d'Or. This makes access easier on race day. The neighborhood is also accessible by tram via the "Stadion-Waassertuerm" stop.

Date, registration, and practical information

The 2025 edition of the Postlaf took place on Sunday, March 9, and the 2026 Postlaf race is scheduled to take place on March 10, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Rue Emile Bian. Registration is online and closes two weeks before the race date, at a cost of €25. For those who prefer to register at the last minute, it is possible to do so on site, with slightly higher fees (€29 to €34 depending on the day).

In addition to the excitement of the race, participants will enjoy two refreshment stations and entertainment along the route. A food court will be available on site for post-race refreshments. Runners can also use the changing rooms and showers to freshen up.

The event is covered by the RTL press group's media outlets. La Postlaf also offers entertainment on site.

Prizes and awards

At the end of the race, the best runners will receive cash prizes. Prizes range from €250 to €150 for the top three finishers. If the record is broken, the winner will receive €500. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, and a raffle will reward a few lucky winners.

Is this your first race? How can you prepare for the Postlaf?

Is the Postlaf your first race? Here are a few tips to help you prepare for the Postlaf and start your sporting season with confidence.

Establish a progressive training program

Schedule a running session 3 or 4 times a week at most. Alternate between long runs , fast runs, and recovery days. Start with short distances and gradually increase to 10 km about one to two weeks before the race.

Practice interval training, alternating between fast runs and recovery periods. This will strengthen your endurance. Increase gradually.

Improve your physical condition with complementary exercises

Incorporate muscle-strengthening exercises. Work your legs , core, and arms with squats, lunges, and core exercises. This will increase your resistance to fatigue and improve your stability while running.

Take care of your body by adding dynamic stretches before your runs with knee lifts or heel-to-butt exercises. Don't forget to stretch after your workouts to improve your flexibility. This will help prevent injuries.

Optimize recovery to avoid injury

Make sure you recover properly between workouts. Sleep is essential for the body to recover and strengthen itself. Seven to eight hours of sleep per night is ideal.

Remember to stay hydrated and eat well. Hydration is crucial for muscle recovery. Eat a balanced diet. The night before a race, focus on complex carbohydrates such as pasta and rice, mixed with vegetables. Don't forget protein to replenish your energy reserves and promote muscle recovery.

Choosing the right running gear

Running with shoes that are suited to your stride and comfortable clothing is essential. Visit stores that specialize in running, such as Peters Sport in Howald. Test your equipment during training to avoid blisters and irritation on race day.

Plan the week before the race

In the days leading up to the race, focus on light workouts to let your muscles rest.

The night before the race, eat a meal rich in carbohydrates to optimize your energy reserves. Go to bed early so you are well rested.

By following these tips, you'll be better prepared for the Postlaf and in great shape to start the running season in Luxembourg!
