Luxembourg Pride Week: celebrate LGBTIQ diversity

Luxembourg
Outings – Leisure activities

Pride Week is a flagship event for the LGBTIQ+ community in Luxembourg. Once again this year, it promises to be a highlight of the year, combining celebrations, awareness-raising, advocacy, and solidarity.

Whether you’re a long-time resident or a newcomer to Luxembourg, this event is the perfect opportunity to discover an open society that respects diversity. Show your support for a cause that remains as relevant as ever: equal rights for everyone.

A must-attend event for the LGBTIQ+ community

Held alternately in Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg City, Luxembourg Pride Week brings together thousands of people each year around core values: inclusion, respect, visibility, and the freedom to be oneself.

For a week, numerous free events are offered to the public: concerts, debates, artistic performances, awareness-raising activities, as well as moments of reflection and advocacy. The goal? To celebrate diversity in all its forms and amplify the voices of those still fighting for equality.

LGBTQIA+ Rights in Luxembourg

Luxembourg is often cited as one of the most progressive European countries regarding LGBTIQ+ rights. In 2024, it ranked 7th on the Rainbow Europe Index compiled by ILGA-Europe.

What has already been achieved in Luxembourg regarding rights:

  • Homosexuality has been recognized in Luxembourg since 1974
  • Marriage equality has been legal since 2015. Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister from 2013 to 2023, was the first European Prime Minister to marry his partner in 2015.
  • Joint adoption is available to all couples
  • Assisted reproductive technology (ART ) is available to female couples.
  • The law prohibits any discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

These significant advances make the country a safe haven for many LGBTIQ+ expats.

Today , all forms of discrimination are prohibited in Luxembourg, including on the basis of sexual orientation, across various aspects of daily life: employment, healthcare, social security, education, access to goods and services, and more.

Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette are members of the Rainbow Cities Network, an international network of inclusive cities. Since 2021, the City of Luxembourg has also declared itself an LGBTIQ+ Freedom Zone.

An inclusive society and active support structures

Moving abroad often involves self-reflection and adaptation. For LGBTIQ+ individuals, or their loved ones, it can also raise specific questions: how can one live openly as one’s true self in a new country? What local protections are available? Where can one find support?

Beyond one-off events, Luxembourg has several support services dedicated to the LGBTIQ+ community:

The CIGALE LGBTIQ+ Center

Based in Luxembourg City, this center offers:

  • confidential counseling sessions,
  • legal and social information,
  • support groups,
  • cultural and prevention activities.

It is supported by the Ministry of Family Affairs and is open to anyone who has questions or is seeking support.

Rosa Lëtzebuerg a.s.b.l.

A leading organization in Luxembourg’s LGBTIQ+ community, Rosa Lëtzebuerg has been advocating for the rights, equality, and visibility of LGBTIQ+ people for over 20 years. It is also the organizer of Pride Week.
