Schueberfouer
Jean l'Aveugle, King of Bohemia and Count of Luxembourg, founded the Schueberfouer in 1340. Originally, it was an eight-day market celebrating St. Bartholomew's Day on August 24.
The Schueberfouer was originally held on the Plateau du Saint-Esprit, but the site became too cramped and the fair was moved to the Limpertsberg district.
In the 18th century, the market grew steadily, not only in size, but also in offerings; concerts, dances and games were now part of the program.
In 1849, the market welcomed its first rides, and in 1893, following the urbanization of the Limpertsberg district, the market moved to the Glacis, which has been its location ever since.
Today, the Schueberfouer, with its countless rides, games, food and drink venues, is the biggest annual funfair in Luxembourg and the Greater Region, attracting millions of visitors every year.
