Hespérange, a very attractive commune in Luxembourg

Hespérange (Hesper in Luxembourgish) is very close to the city of Luxembourg, with easy access to the motorway network.

History of Hespérange in Luxembourg

The first traces of Hespérange date back to the 9th century as a possession of the Abbey of Echternach. The Lords of Rodemack built a fortified castle in the 18th century. Today, the ruins of the castle can still be seen overlooking the town.

Hespérange was home to Luxembourg's largest grain mill. Unfortunately, it exploded in 1893. It was replaced by a new mill in Kleinbettingen. At the time, the town had a population of around 2,300.

Especially after the Second World War, the town of Hespérange experienced strong growth. Its population grew from 3,500 to over 10,000 in 1992. With its close proximity to Luxembourg City, Hespérange benefits from a number of motorway links giving it rapid access to the three neighboring countries. Several business parks are located in the commune, notably in Howald.
