Dance shows, ballets

Numerous dance performances or ballets are offered in the city’s theaters in the city’s theaters, cultural centers or in private venues such as the Rockhal.

Located in the district of Luxembourg-Bonnevoie, the TROIS C-L is the reference structure for contemporary dance in Luxembourg.
On the 3rd of each month, the TROIS C-L organizes the “3 of the THREE”, with a multidisciplinary artistic program, which tries to rethink and question society and choreographic art. For the public, it is a unique opportunity to discover the world of contemporary dance and to share time with the invited artists.
Initiated by TROIS C-L in 2015, the “ Émergences” encompasses a program to support contemporary creation. The objective of the project is to highlighting emerging choreographic signatures in the artistic landscape in Luxembourg, while creating bridges between young creators and the general public.
Le Trois-C-L also offers dance classes.

Music Concerts

The various concert halls or cafés with live music offer an eclectic and varied program. All musical tastes are represented for the greatest pleasure of the amateurs of contemporary, classical or more folkloric musical productions.

The Philharmonie in Kirchberg offers you theopportunity to attend classical music concerts in a prestigious setting with a perfect sound system.

For pop or rock concerts, you can choose between the Coque in Kirchberg, the Rockhal in Belval, Casino 2000 in Mondorf or den Atelier in Luxembourg for a more intimate atmosphere.

  • Den Atelier is the leading live music club in Luxembourg since 1995. In this concert hall located in the trendy nightlife area of Luxembourg-Hollerich, you can enjoy an exceptional proximity to the artists. Numerous international artists perform in an astonishing setting consisting of an old disused Renault garage that can accommodate up to 1,000 people. Created by alternative music, international rock and independent bands enthusiasts, DenAtelier’s programming has nothing to envy to venues like the Bataclan in Paris, the Paradiso in Amsterdam or the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.
    Den Atelier is also the organizer of festivals like Rock-A-Field in Roeser or Siren’s Call.

  • The Rockhal in Belval (Esch-sur-Alzette ) is the largest concert and performance hall in Luxembourg. Opened in 2005 on the industrial wasteland of Belval, the Rockhal has become the place to be for international musical events and meetings. Rock concerts, pop concerts, classical ballets, contemporary dance, plays or one-man shows… with international stars who include the Rockhal in their world tour. Attend also shows such as film-concert.
    With its three rooms, the Rockhal can accommodate up to 6,500 people in the Main Hall, 1,200 people in the Club and 200 people on the Floor.
    The Rockhal also includes a recording studio, a dance hall, rehearsal rooms and a Documentation Center.
    In 2018, the Rockhal welcomed more than 250,000 visitors from all over the Greater Region: 49% Luxembourg, 19% France, 16% Germany, 13% Belgium, 3% others. More than 200 events were produced during this year.
    The public transportation offer a good connection to the venue. It is recommended to use the line 60 of the trains from Luxembourg and Bettembourg to Esch-sur-Alzette/Belval. Several bus lines also serve the hall.
    Access by car is possible with a parking lot nearby, but the number of spaces is limited. It is recommended to use the parking lot of the Belval-University Station.

  • Casino 2000:
    This place of particularly classical architecture (former Casino Bourgeois 1882) is dedicated to contemporary creation in all its forms, concerts and shows. The program with musical presentation of the artists and reservations is available on the website.
    Take the opportunity to visit the beautiful park of the Domaine Thermal de Mondorf-les-Bains.
  • For jazz lovers,the Blues Club Lëtzebuerg is a reference for Jazz and Blues in Luxembourg.
    It participates in the Blues’n Jazz rally festival organized in summer as part
    of the“Summer in the City” animation. This club is also involved in many concerts organized in the region. The jazz concerts are given in the bewitching and mythical room “Sang a klang” of 250 places located in the Luxembourg-Pfaffenthal district.

Musical activities partly free of charge

Here too, Luxembourg is innovating! From the beginning of the school year 2022-2023, Luxembourg offers free public education to all young people in the field of music, speech and dance. Students under 18 years of age will be offered free of charge in communal structures for early learning courses up to the first cycle diploma. This free program will be applied proportionally according to the family’s income, thus integrating musical accompaniment as a full part of the child’s education.

Philharmonie de Luxembourg

Located in the Kirchberg district, the Philharmonie offers, in addition to its magnificent concerts, a discovery of music through a series of concerts dedicated to children. These workshops are organized in 4 languages and according to age.

Conservatory of the City of Luxembourg

Created in 1906 thanks to a private donation, the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg is today located in the Merl district. It has a prestigious auditorium with more than 600 seats whose acoustics have already seduced many artists, including Mstislav Rostropovitch.

The Conservatory is a school of music and dance. More than 3,800 students from 7 to 25 years of age benefit from music or dance courses, offered by more than 170 teachers, in 140 theoretical and practical disciplines. More than 2,700 hours of music are taught each week.
For the youngest, an introduction to music is possible from 3 years old with the “Mini Music” activity. Classical dance is taught from the age of 7.

The conservatory offers courses in many disciplines, whether for leisure or for a professional vocation in music or the performing arts.
There are courses in various musical instruments, dance, singing, diction, acting in German and French, improvisation, body expression, directing, breathing and the history of theater.
The volume of the courses varies according to the objective pursued. These can be group classes for courses such as dance or theater, or individual classes to learn to play a specific instrument.

The conservatory also has relay establishments in the districts of Luxembourg City, in collaboration with music schools.

Applications are made during the first two weeks of September and actual registrations are made according to the availability of places in the various subjects requested. Aptitude tests may be required. The conservatory welcomes not only Luxembourg residents but also non-residents.

The conservatory museum features music archives and antique musical instruments, including the piano on which Franz Liszt played his last concert in 1886.

TheRollingergrund Municipal Band, in collaboration with the Luxembourg Conservatory, offers music theory and wind instrument lessons for brass and woodwind instruments.
