Like every year, the small birds made of terracotta will invade the capital of Luxembourg and the village of Nospelt on the occasion of the Emaischen. A tradition which marks the beginning of the Easter festivities !
The popular festival of Emaischen is celebrated every Easter Monday in Nospelt, southern of Luxembourg, as well as in the fish market square of the city of Luxembourg. This year, the event will take place on Monday, April 17th !
From 10.00 am, you can buy some Péckvillecher (traditional bird-shaped whistles made of terracotta) in the small streets of Nospelt and Luxembourg-City. Beverages, catering and entertainment for children will also be proposed.
At 11.00 am, in Nospelt, the Bertrange Philharmonic Orchestra will give a concert under a tent, followed by a cocktail. Other musical activities and entertainment for children (face painting, balloon sculpture, ...) will be also available !
Known for being a former village of potters, Nospelt had the reputation to manufacture small birds with the remains of clay of the day, hence the tradition of the Péckvillecher !
If the origin of this traditional festival particularly beloved among children remains unclear, the Luxembourgian residents and tourists are very fond of this event. Every year, hundreds of people come together in the streets at Emaischen ! Each year, new designs of terracotta or ceramic small birds, with thousand colors, are proposed to the general public during this feast.
